Colour is a 3-dimenional phenomenon (Albert Henri Munsell, 1915, Atlas of the Munsell Color System)

Hue-Value-Chroma.

By being able to understand these 3 dimentions, as well as the optical properties of natural teeth, we can make a customized shade selection. With the help of shade guides, which show separetely the dentin shades, the enamel shades, shades for special translucencies and bright or gray zones, we can have an integrated and complete view for all 3 dimentions of the colour of natural teeth, so we can reproduce them in our restorations.
